Edgar Rice Burroughs was the J. K. Rowling of his day. Best known for his 1914 novel, Tarzan of the Apes, he was also a prolific author of what would come to be known as "science fiction" or "swords and sorcery."

The MARS books (also known as Barsoom, starring John Carter) are perhaps Burroughs' second most famous novels - but among sci-fi fans they are the number one achievement of the man many have called "the Grandfather of American Science Fiction."
Burroughs wrote swashbuckling high adventures on the dying planet of Barsoom, peopled by numerous strange creatures, multi-colored races and an ancient history rivalling that created by J.R.R. Tolkien for his fantasy worlds. Written almost a century ago, these novels foresaw such inventions as autopilots for aircraft, organ and brain transplants, man-made brains, artificial atmosphere plants - and tissue cloning!
The first five Mars novels are all available here as unabridged audiobooks. Hear them before you see the movie!
